Presidential Council President Mohamed Menfi has issued a decree appointing a new board for the High National Elections Commission, on the same day the 4+4 committee signed an agreement on restructuring the commission and the legal framework for elections.
The decree reappointed Imad Al-Sayah as commission chairman and named Sana Al-Lishani as deputy chairwoman, alongside five other members.
Three of the appointees were among the names proposed by the 4+4 committee.
The committee had recommended Dhaw Al-Hamali as chairman, with Al-Lishani as his deputy, and Ali Al-Tayea, Haitham Al-Tabouli, Ali Abu Salah, Badiwi Mohammed and Ali Al-Mabrouk as members.
The two sets of appointments therefore differ significantly, with Al-Sayah retaining the chairmanship under Menfi’s decree despite the committee recommending Al-Hamali.
