ALBION, Mich. — Albion Britons senior guard Meghan Trewhella will compete in the USA Division III Women’s Basketball Brazil Tour hosted by USA Sports Tours & Events from Aug. 4-13, representing Albion College in the process.
Two teams (Red and Blue) consisting of eight players each are scheduled to play four games each against Brazilian competition. Trewhella will play on the Red squad coached by Drury University’s Leo Gomes.
Trewhella was invited after earning D3hoops.com First Team All-Region honors during the 2025-26 season, becoming the first Briton to receive first-team recognition. The Houghton native also earned MIAA MVP honors after setting a program record with 541 points (20.0 ppg), leading the conference in scoring by more than 150 points and becoming the MIAA’s first 500-point scorer since 2017-18.
Members of the Red squad include Chicago’s Chris Sanders and Annebelle Spotts along with DePauw’s Olivia Hart — all of whom Trewhella and the Britons played against this past season.
Roster spots were accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
This marks the 16th year USA Sports Tours & Events have taken USA select Division III teams to play in Brazil. Over 900 players from more than 200 different Division III institutions have competed in the event.
Both squads will play back-to-back games against various Brazilian club teams while on the tour. Games will take place from Aug. 5-7 in Sao Paulo before a lone contest in Rio de Janeiro on either Aug. 9, 10 or 11.
According to the tour’s official invitation, it “is designed to expose players to a great international basketball experience while providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for educational, cultural and social growth.”
As part of the tour, both teams will provide outreach opportunities with local youth teams/groups during visits to schools and clubs. Additionally, they are scheduled to tour the famous Christ the Redeemer statue that overlooks Rio de Janeiro as well as the Sugar Loaf Mountain among other landmarks in the city and Sao Paulo.
“I’m excited for this opportunity to play in Brazil and to be able to team up with new teammates from other teams,” Trewhella said. “It’s going to be a great experience to compete with a competitive group while having the opportunity to represent Albion women’s basketball.”
