Matt Renshaw Smashes Maiden ODI Ton, Rescues Australia Against Zimbabwe

Australian left-handed batter Matt Renshaw smashed his maiden One Day International (ODI) century on 15 September 2026 during the series opener against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. He arrived at number six under immense pressure with Australia trembling at 107/4, the left-hander played a spectacular knock to rescue the Aussies. He brought up his milestone century off just 86 balls. He finished his innings with 109 runs off 94 balls, which included 7 boundaries and 3 over boundaries. His innings guided Australia to a competitive total of 294/8 in their 50 overs.

After winning the toss, Australia chose to bat first but suffered an inappropriate top-order collapse, while losing their top four batters within the first 18 overs. Key wickets included the likes of Travis Head (4) and Josh Inglis (4). Renshaw led the lower-middle order by involving in two crucial partnerships, which stabilized the Aussie innings. He carefully made together a 72-run stand with wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who scored 27 runs and a 75-run stand with young Oliver Peake, who scored 40 runs. He brought up his half-century off 55 balls by smashing the ball of Wellington Masakadza onto the stadium roof.

He kept moving beautifully for his second fifty, as he took just 33 balls to move from his half-century to century. Renshaw was finally dismissed in the final over of the innings, when he went for a big shot off 20-year-old left-arm bowler Newman Nyamhuri and eventually handed his wicket with an easy catch to Wesley Madhevere. This wicket also simultaneously secured a maiden international five-wicket haul for Nyamhuri, as he finished the innings with a figure of 5/62.

Renshaw achieved a rare feat for the first time in 20 years through his century. His century is the first ODI hundred by an Aussie batter against Zimbabwe since former Aussie captain Michael Clarke scored an unbeaten 105 in Harare back in 2004. This serves as a huge breakthrough milestone for the young batter as it marks Renshaw’s first century for Australia in any international format since his 184 against Pakistan in the 2017 SCG Test match.

The Australia tour of Zimbabwe 2026 features a 3-match One Day International (ODI) series. This marks Australia’s first bilateral tour to Zimbabwe in over a decade. All matches are being held at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. After today’s ongoing first ODI match, the second and the third ODIs will take place on the 18th and 20th of September, 2026 in Harare.
