Maria Gakdeng Signs with Celta Femxa Zorka Vigo for 2026-27 Season

Celta Femxa Zorka Vigo (LF Challenge) agreed terms with 23-year old American (has also South Sudanese passport) power forward Maria Gakdeng (190cm-2003, college: UNC) for new 2026-27 season. She played last season at Greensboro Groove (UpShot) in the U.S. In 7 games just recently she had 5.1ppg, 8.3rpg and 1.1bpg. The last season she played at Tarr KSC Szekszard in Hungarian league. She also played 22 games in Hungarian A Division where she recorded 13.8ppg, 8.8rpg (#4 in the league), 1.0apg and 1.3bpg. Gakdeng helped them to make it to the cup final. 2025-26 was a great season as she was named to Eurobasket.com All-Hungarian League All-Defensive Team, All-Imports Team and League Player of the Week (4 times). She has been regularly called to the South Sudanese Senior National Team since 2025.
Among many awards, she was voted to Afrobasket.com All-FIBA Afrobasket Honorable Mention in 2025 during her college time.
Gakdeng graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2025 and it will be her second season as a professional player. She also played for Boston College for 2 years.
