Marathon standout Sara Hall coming home to Santa Rosa for book signing, Q&A – The Press Democrat


Santa Rosa native and longtime distance-running standout Sara Hall is returning home this week for a Q&A and book signing for her memoir “For the Love of the Grind,” which was released last year.

The event will take place from 2:30-4 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Marathon Expo at Sports Basement on Santa Rosa Avenue.

Hall, who now lives in Flagstaff, Arizona, graduated from Montgomery High School in 2001, She won four state titles in cross country, three more in track and field and won the Footlocker National High School Cross Country Championships as a senior in 2000.

After high school, Hall attended Stanford, where she was a seven-time All-American.

The book signing coincides with the Santa Rosa Marathon, which is holding races Saturday and Sunday.

Professionally, Hall’s top achievements include finishing second in the London Marathon in 2020 and setting the then-American record at the Houston Half Marathon in 2022. Hall also finished fifth at the 2024 U.S. Olympic marathon trials. She missed qualifying for the Olympics by two spots.

Hall’s memoir explores several topics from her career, including her time at the U.S. Olympic team trials, as well as coaching, faith, overcoming injuries, anxiety, and the struggles balancing career and parenthood.
