Manchester United 4-0 Sabah FK

Manchester United marked their return to the UEFA Champions League in style after thrashing Sabah FK 4-0 at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy made his tournament debut in defence, while United recalled Benjamin Sesko, Lenny Yoro, Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui.

Sabah put up a solid showing early on, but United broke the deadlock on 27 minutes when Dorgu’s cross found Matheus Cunha, who volleyed home at the near post.

The lead was doubled in the 42nd minute when Youri Tielemans drifted into the box before pulling the ball back for Bruno Fernandes to fire home. Benjamin Sesko then added his name to the scoresheet minutes later to open his account for the season.

Michael Carrick’s charges bagged a fourth goal after the hour mark when Lisandro Martinez bundled the ball home from close range after good work by Joshua Zirkzee.

Bayern Munich 5-0 Bodo/Glimt

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich opened their League Phase campaign with a 5-0 win over Bodo/Glimt.

The Bavarians had to wait until the second half to get the breakthrough when a neat passing move ended with Jamal Musiala rifling the ball into the far corner.

The lead was doubled on the hour mark when Harry Kane opened his account for the campaign after being set up by Michael Olise.

Olise took over in the final stages of the second half, with the Frenchman bagging a brace in the final ten minutes to wrap up the win.

Como 4-1 RB Leipzig

Como secured an impressive 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig in their Champions League debut.

The hosts opened the scoring with their first-ever goal in the competition thanks to a strike from Martin Baturina. Anastasios Douvikas then doubled the lead before the break.

Assane Diao got the third goal for Como 10 minutes after the break, while Andrija Maksimovic bagged a consolation for the visitors.

Maximo Perrone rounded off the scoring for Cesc Fabregas’ side on the night.

Slavia Prague 2-3 Lens

RC Lens started their League Phase journey with a 2-2 win against Slavia Prague on Thursday night.

After a goalless first half, the hosts were reduced to 10 men when Mikulas Konecny was shown a straight red card.

Despite the red card, Slavia were still able to come out and score twice thanks to a brace from Danijel Sturm.

However, Abdallah Sima, Florian Thauvin and a stoppage-time winner from Ruben Aguilar sealed the win for the visitors.
