Man accused of killing PA State Trooper in crash is illegal Haitian immigrant: DHS

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The commercial truck driver from Massachusetts accused of hitting and killing a Pennsylvania State Trooper in Schuylkill County is an illegal immigrant, according to a Department of Homeland Security statement first obtained by the Boston Herald.

A DHS spokesperson told CBS 21 that Michael Bon is a Haitian immigrant who has been in the U.S. illegally since June 2025.

Bon was admitted into the country at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport as a parolee on July 2, 2024, DHS said.

On Oct. 26, 2024, Bon filed an application for Temporary Protected Status with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services; however, TPS was never granted.

On June 13, 2025, Bon’s parole was terminated, but DHS says he remained in the country anyway.

Bon was issued his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in Massachusetts, according to DHS, though it’s unclear when this was issued.

While driving a tractor-trailer on I-81 on Wednesday morning, Bon went off the roadway and fatally struck Trooper Michael Pahira, according to state police reports.

Bon was then arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle, among other charges. DHS lodged an immigration detainer against him on Thursday.
