Mali mulls national space agency to advance Alliance of Sahel States shared satellite scheme

The government of Mali is exploring the creation of a national space agency to support an Alliance of Sahel States (AES) scheme to develop shared satellite capabilities for technology, connectivity and security, Ecofin reported. Mali’s ICT minister Alhamdou Ag Ilyene discussed the proposal with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) deputy secretary-general Tomas Lamanauskas on the sidelines of the WSIS Forum 2026 in Geneva.
