Making An Unreachable Dream Possible

Going to school is highly encouraged and enforced in American culture. Most parents can afford to send their children to school without much thought of school fees.

But only 713 miles southeast of Florida is Haiti, where going to school is an unreachable dream for many children.

Many Haitian schools, including government schools, are seriously struggling. However, CAM-supported schools are changing the statistics with well-filled classrooms and academic progress. Currently 22 schools are on the Haiti Sponsor-A-Child program with a total of 5,355 students. In addition to the opportunity to learn, these children get a hot meal at school each day—for some the only meal they have for the day.

A sponsored school in Haiti says, “We thank God very much for CAM and we thank [them] for the great help it has given us in our school and this program. . . . Many children could not go to school because the materials are very expensive and their parents could not afford to buy them. But CAM helps us find solutions in this regard. . . . Every day the children still get food. This helps them work better in class. And this helps the parents a lot because there are parents who know that there is no food to give them every day before they come to school.”

Despite all the difficulties in the country of Haiti, the school program is thriving. Schools are making progress, especially in teacher evaluations and holding the schools accountable in the quality of education.

Pray for the teachers and students on our program. Continue to pray for political peace in Haiti, but most of all that the Prince of Peace would reign in people’s hearts.
