President John Dramani Mahama has assured the chiefs and people of Juapong that the government is taking concrete steps to revive Volta Star Textiles Limited (VSTL), including plans to secure a steady supply of cotton from neighbouring Benin.

Speaking during his Resetting Ghana Agenda Tour in Juapong on Thursday, July 16, 2026, President Mahama said arrangements are underway to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Benin to supply cotton to the factory once production resumes.

“Arrangements are being made to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Benin to supply us with cotton to feed the factory in Ghana,” he said.

According to the President, the agreement will ensure a reliable supply of raw materials needed to sustain operations at the textile company as part of efforts to restore the once-thriving factory.

Mr Mahama described Volta Star Textiles as a symbol of hope, employment and industrial progress, noting that the company once supported thousands of families and played a key role in the economic development of Juapong.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reviving the factory through strategic partnerships, investment mobilisation and the modernisation of its operations.

The President disclosed that the government has already selected a strategic investor to partner in the revitalisation of the factory following a competitive bidding process.

“Government has selected a strategic investor to partner in the revitalisation of Volta Star Textiles Limited,” he said.

He added that the transaction adviser will soon introduce the investor to the factory to begin the design, rehabilitation and modernisation of the facility.

Mr Mahama expressed confidence that the revival of Volta Star Textiles would create sustainable jobs for residents of Juapong and surrounding communities while strengthening Ghana’s textile value chain.

He said the project would also reposition Juapong as a major industrial hub and complement the government’s broader investments in agriculture, commerce and infrastructure.

The President urged residents to remain optimistic, stressing that the revival of the factory forms part of the government’s wider agenda to reset the economy through industrialisation, job creation and value addition.
