Magnitude 5.1 earthquake hits Colombia; Bogotá buildings evacuated — Euronews
A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Colombia. Tremors were felt in the central and northeastern regions of the country, including in the capital, Bogotá. Alarms went off in the city, after which people were evacuated from several buildings.
Epicenter and tremor parameters
According to the Colombian Geological Service, the earthquake occurred at around 11:45 a.m. local time on Wednesday. The epicenter was located in Los Santos, in the department of Santander, and the depth of the focus was 149 kilometers.
The earthquake was initially estimated at magnitude 5.4 and a depth of 140 kilometers. The Colombian Geological Service later revised the figures to magnitude 5.1 and a depth of 149 kilometers, Euronews reports.

Evacuations and consequences
Tremors were also felt in Bucaramanga, Piedecuesta and Floridablanca. In Bucaramanga, authorities ordered a preventive evacuation. At the time of publication, authorities had not reported any deaths, injuries or destruction as a result of the earthquake.
The tremors occurred 16 days after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Colombia which, according to the outlet, claimed the lives of more than 300 people.
