Macau and Angola sign mutual visa exemption agreement

Macau residents and Angolan citizens will soon be able to enter both territories without a visa, following a mutual exemption agreement signed on Friday between the two jurisdictions.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Secretary for Administration and Justice of the Macao SAR Government, Wong Sio Chak, stated that the agreement “will significantly facilitate the daily lives” of residents on both sides, particularly in tourism, academic exchanges, and trade.

Wong added that the measure “will promote greater interaction between the populations” and “deepen civilisational exchanges and cultural integration”.

“We take this opportunity to invite more friends from Angola to visit, invest in, and travel to Macau to experience the vitality, inclusiveness, and opportunities this city has to offer,” he emphasised.

Also attending the ceremony, Eduardo Velasco Galiano, Consul General of Angola in the Macao SAR and Angolan delegate to the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Forum Macao), noted that “on several occasions, entrepreneurs from both sides were forced to pull back.”

“Your gesture today not only resolves these bureaucratic barriers but permanently clears the uncertainty that lingered over our commercial relations, opening doors to a future of greater prosperity and economic exchange,” he highlighted.

Angola becomes the fourth Portuguese-speaking country—after Portugal, Brazil, and Cape Verde—to benefit from Macau’s visa-exemption regime.

According to a press release from the Identification Services Bureau (DSI), once the agreement enters into force, Macau residents holding Macao SAR passports will be able to enter the Republic of Angola visa-free for stays of up to 30 days, with identical conditions granted to valid passport holders of the Republic of Angola.

The exact date for the agreement’s implementation will be announced in due course, according to the release.
