The Libyan Customs Authority reported yesterday that officers of the Misrata Free Zone Port Customs Centre successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle more than five tons of suspected cannabis resin into the country.
It reported that, conducted under the supervision of the East Misrata Primary Prosecution Office, the operation resulted in the seizure of two containers concealing 4,752 packages, locally known as “Qursa”, carefully hidden among commercial goods to evade inspection.
The operation was supported by the Misrata Joint Operations Force, the Misrata Free Zone Administration, the Container Control Programme (CCP), and the K9 Unit.
It reported that a Libyan national suspected of direct involvement in the case was arrested, while legal proceedings remain ongoing.
