The Environment Ministry has conducted its first field mission using environmental DNA (eDNA) to monitor biodiversity at Ain Kaam Reserve in Al-Khums.
The work, carried out from 3 to 5 July in cooperation with WWF North Africa and academic experts, involved collecting DNA samples from multiple sites to identify species present in the area using standardised scientific techniques.
The ministry said the initiative marks a step towards strengthening environmental research and building a clearer picture of ecosystems within the reserve.
It added that the project will help establish a scientific database to support environmental decision-making and could be expanded to other areas as part of efforts to protect natural resources in Libya.
