Libya launches initiative to regulate flour subsidies and monitor bakeries
The acting Minister of Local Government, Mohammed bin Ghalboun, and Deputy Minister of Industry and Minerals, Mustafa Al-Sumo, signed a memorandum of understanding to implement the National Initiative for Stabilizing and Supporting the Bread Industry.
The initiative will cover around 1,876 bakeries across Libya, regulating subsidized flour allocations based on actual production levels to prevent the diversion of flour, fuel and financial subsidies.
It will also establish field and electronic monitoring involving municipalities, the Municipal Guard, the Bakers’ Union and industry oversight offices to ensure compliance with bread production, quality and weight standards and maintain a stable supply for citizens.
