Libya and Malta Discuss Expanding Economic and Investment Ties

During his meeting with the Chargé d’affaires of the Maltese Embassy in Libya, Shaun Chircop Troisi, and the Director of the Malta Enterprise Authority (and former Maltese Ambassador to Libya), Charles Saliba, Tripoli’s Minister of Economy and Trade discussed ways to enhance economic, trade and investment relations between Libya and Malta, and opening new horizons for cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting came after the return of the Malta Enterprise Authority to Libya, after an absence of about 12 years. The meeting witnessed the presence of the Authority and the start of its work again in Libya, in a step that reflects the interest of the Maltese side in developing economic and investment cooperation with Libya.

The two sides stressed the importance of supporting Maltese companies wishing to expand their business and commercial activities in Libya, and to benefit from the potential and opportunities available in the Libyan market, thus contributing to strengthening the partnership between the private sectors in the two countries.

The Malta Enterprise Authority also reviewed a set of incentives and forms of support provided to companies that have a serious interest in establishing or expanding their operations and commercial activities in Malta, which opens the way for Libyan companies to benefit from these programs and access international markets.

The Ministry of Economy said the return of the Malta Enterprise Authority to Libya confirms the historical and long-term relations between the two countries, and represents an important step towards enhancing economic cooperation, opening new horizons for business, and creating new commercial and investment opportunities for the private sector in Libya and Malta.
