Liberia Adopts Satellite Communications Guidelines to Expand Digital Connectivity
The guidelines establish a clear regulatory framework for satellite communications services, with provisions covering nationwide access, consumer protection, quality of service, data protection and efficient spectrum management.
The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has officially adopted new Satellite Communications Guidelines aimed at expanding digital connectivity, strengthening regulatory oversight and supporting Liberia’s digital transformation.
The guidelines establish a clear regulatory framework for satellite communications services, with provisions covering nationwide access, consumer protection, quality of service, data protection and efficient spectrum management.
According to the LTA, satellite technology can play a critical role in extending connectivity to underserved and hard-to-reach communities across Liberia. It can also provide alternative connectivity options when submarine fibre-optic cables and other terrestrial networks experience disruptions.
LTA Chairperson Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi welcomed increased investment and innovation in the telecommunications sector, while stressing that satellite service providers must secure the necessary authorisations and comply with Liberia’s telecommunications regulations.
The regulator also invited international satellite operators and investors to explore opportunities in Liberia under the newly established framework.
The LTA said the adoption of the guidelines marks an important step toward building a more connected, resilient and inclusive digital economy, while supporting greater access to digital services across the country.
