Lhuandre Pretorius scores 94 as South Africa beat Zimbabwe by 43 runs

South Africa secured a 43-run victory over Zimbabwe in the fourth match of the Namibia T20I Tri-Series at the Namibia Cricket Ground on Tuesday, propelled by Lhuandre Pretorius’ career-best innings of 94.

Batting first, South Africa posted 185 for 7 in their 20 overs, with Pretorius anchoring the innings in a 51-ball knock that included 12 fours and three sixes. He narrowly missed achieving his maiden T20I century.

Pretorius received valuable support from Dewald Brevis, who contributed 41 runs from 27 balls. Together, they laid a strong foundation before Zimbabwe’s bowlers claimed regular wickets towards the close of the innings.

In response, Zimbabwe struggled to maintain momentum and were bowled out for 142 runs in 17.4 overs. Captain Sikandar Raza top-scored with 45 off 33 deliveries, while Newman Nyamhuri added 27.

Bjorn Fortuin was the standout bowler for South Africa, taking 4 wickets for 24 runs in 3.4 overs. Duan Jansen also impressed with figures of 3 for 21 as the Proteas took wickets at crucial moments to keep Zimbabwe under pressure.

The bowling unit, led by Jansen and Fortuin who shared seven wickets, comfortably defended South Africa’s total. Pretorius was named Player of the Match for his match-winning innings, which played a vital role in securing South Africa’s second victory over Zimbabwe in the tournament.

Reflecting on his performance, Pretorius said he was not disappointed to miss a century, emphasising the significance of the team’s win over individual milestones. “Yeah, that’s fine. I’m just glad we got over the line. Milestones will come and go, and yeah, it wasn’t meant to be today, but I was just glad because we said at the 14-over mark we wanted to get to 200, and I knew if I got the team to 200 I’d get to the milestone. But yeah, I think milestones come and go, and today was not meant to be, but we won, so it’s good,” he stated.
