“Let our good side be known to the World” — Youth minister tells netizens

National Minister of Youth and Sports, Atong Kuol Manyang, has urged South Sudanese, especially young people, to use social media responsibly to promote national unity and project a positive image of the country.

Speaking on Monday during the opening of the Youth Leadership, Peace and Security Forum in Juba, Atong encouraged citizens to use digital platforms to share messages that promote peace, development, and national pride.

The forum is supported by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

The minister warned against using social media to spread content that creates division, urging users to instead highlight the country’s achievements and potential.

“Regarding social media, I want to say use it well, in a way that it benefits us, in a way that it unites us, in a way that even South Sudan is seen from a positive perspective by other people,” Atong said.

“Let us keep our weaknesses within our country, but make our good side known by other countries,” she added.

Atong said responsible use of social media can contribute to strengthening national cohesion and improving South Sudan’s reputation internationally by showcasing positive stories about the country.
