The southern African kingdom is seeing more men becoming midwives. Lesotho has a high rate of women’s deaths around childbirth, and the government emphasizes that gender shouldn’t matter in childbirth care. Ntlhane Sehloho became one of the country’s first male midwives two decades ago, and says his presence at clinics is welcomed by most women. While some women prefer female midwives, others appreciate the attentive care that male midwives provide. The community is slowly accepting this change.
