Benghazi, Libya, June 18, 2026: The Head of the Liberian Legislative Delegation attending the Second General Conference of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council (AAPC), Rep. Johnson Samuel Nagbe Williams, Sr., has reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and promoting deeper cooperation among Asian and African nations.
Delivering Liberia’s official statement at the conference held in Benghazi, Libya, Rep. Williams conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the Speaker of the Honorable House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia, Richard Nagbe Koon, and the entire membership of the 55th Legislature.
Rep. Williams described Liberia’s participation in the conference as a demonstration of the country’s dedication to international cooperation and collective engagement in addressing global challenges.
“It is a great honor and privilege for us to participate in this Second General Conference of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council here in the historic city of Benghazi”.
The Liberian delegation is headed by Rep. Johnson Samuel Nagbe Williams, Sr., Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, and includes Rep. Samuel N. Brown, Chairman of the House Committee on Commerce and Industry; Rep. Mustapha Waritay, Co-Chairman of the House Committee on Hydrocarbon; Mr. Robert Benjamin Haynes, Director of Press and Public Affairs of the House of Representatives; and Mr. Frederick G. David, Deputy Chief of Staff in the Office of the Speaker.
Addressing delegates from across Asia and Africa, Rep. Williams emphasized the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing peace, security, democratic governance, and sustainable development.
He noted that countries across both continents continue to face pressing challenges including economic uncertainty, climate change, youth unemployment, migration concerns, security threats, and the strengthening of democratic institutions.
“These challenges transcend borders and require collective parliamentary actions, mutual understanding, and strategic partnerships,” he stressed.
The Head of Delegation further outlined Liberia’s priorities in strengthening cooperation in areas including trade and investment, education, technology transfer, infrastructure development, energy security, climate resilience, and youth empowerment.
He emphasized that stronger partnerships among Asian and African countries have the potential to unlock new opportunities for economic growth and social advancement.
Rep. Williams also reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to the principles of mutual respect, solidarity, peaceful coexistence, and international cooperation, while expressing optimism that discussions at the conference will strengthen ties among participating legislative institutions.
In a significant gesture during his address, Rep. Williams conveyed Liberia’s support for the second-term bid of members of the Executive Bureau of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council.
He concluded by reiterating the greetings of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon and members of the 55th Legislature, while expressing confidence that the conference will produce meaningful outcomes and enduring partnerships for the benefit of participating nations. -Dispatch.
