The story

Veteran kwaito star Chomee has tapped into South Africa’s growing football fever with the release of the official visuals for her spirited new anthem, Tjovitjo (Bafana is Back) — a high-energy celebration blending music, dance and national pride.

The vibrant release arrives at a time when excitement around Bafana Bafana continues to build ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in less than a month.

Released through music industry veteran Arthur Mafokate’s 999 Music, the football-inspired track first dropped on 15 May 2026, with the official unveiling of the music video on Instagram on Friday.

Announcing the release, Mafokate described the song as a soundtrack for South African football culture and match-day celebrations.

“THE VOICE. THE VIBE. THE NATION. BAFANA BAFANA IS BACK,” he wrote.

“CHOMEE returns with TJOVITJO — a powerful new football-inspired anthem built for the streets, the supporters and the stadiums,” added Arthur.

The visually striking video leans heavily into South African football nostalgia and fan culture, featuring Chomee dancing outside FNB Stadium, performing from the back of a convertible BMW and surrounded by colourful stadium-inspired scenes and AI-generated visuals.

The song’s catchy chorus also pays tribute to some of the stars currently carrying the hopes of South African football fans, with shoutouts to players including Oswin Appollis, Relebohile Mofokeng and Teboho Mokoena.

“Appolis on the wing, we got the whole crowd alive / Mofokeng on the move, the future is here… / Mokoena from the distance…” Chomee sings over the upbeat production.
