Kuwait hosts Iraq-US talks | Kuwait Times Newspaper


KUWAIT: Acting Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah chaired a meeting at Bayan Palace on Thursday with delegations from Iraq and the United States, in the presence of Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Interior Ministry Undersecretary Lt Gen Abdulwahab Al-Wuhaib, representatives of the defense ministry and a number of diplomatic, security and military leaders.

Sheikh Fahad stressed the importance of continuing consultations and coordination with the Iraqi and US sides and strengthening security and defense cooperation to address common challenges in light of regional developments, in a manner that serves shared interests and contributes to maintaining the security and stability of the region.

The meeting reviewed areas of joint cooperation and ways to strengthen them, discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, and exchanged views on regional conditions and current developments. The meeting also addressed a number of security and defense issues of mutual interest, as well as ongoing coordination among the participating parties in a way that enhances integration, promotes the exchange of expertise and supports efforts to consolidate security and stability in the region.

The Iraqi delegation was headed by Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Lt Gen Abdulamir Al-Shammari and included a number of Iraqi officials and specialized leaders. The US delegation was headed by Commander of the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve Admiral Liam Hulin and included a number of US officials and specialized leaders. — KUNA
