Kuany Atem Kuany joins Maroussi

Maroussi have officially announced the signing of Kuany Atem Kuany, a 26-year-old South Sudanese-Australian power forward standing 2.06m tall. The player has been in Athens for a week and has already featured in preseason games against Panathinaikos and Papagos.

Kuany’s most recent team was the Waverley Falcons from Melbourne, who compete in the NBL1 South. Born in Kakuma, Kenya, on March 27, 2000, he lived in South Sudan before his family moved to Melbourne when he was six years old. He started playing basketball at the age of 11 and moved to the United States at 15 to focus on both basketball and his education.

At high school level, he attended Victory Rock Prep and Prolific Prep. He then spent the first four years of his college career with the California Golden Bears before joining the VCU Rams of the Atlantic 10 Conference for his fifth year. With VCU, he averaged 5.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in 16.8 minutes per game, appearing in 37 games as a starter. He also excelled academically, graduating with a degree in sociology.

Kuany began his professional career with the Illawarra Hawks during the 2024-25 season, helping the team win the Australian NBL championship. He then played for the Townsville Heat before joining Anorthosis Famagusta in Cyprus for the 2025-26 season, averaging 15.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game.

He subsequently continued his career with FUS Rabat in Morocco and the Waverley Falcons in Australia. This past summer, he also appeared in three NBA Summer League games with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Since November 2024, Kuany has been a member of the South Sudan national team.
