If you are in need of some kid-friendly soccer ideas during the World Cup, consider heading to the Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium! From now until the end of the FIFA World Cup, zookeepers will be adding soccer-themed enrichment into some of the animal enclosures for their Kick It At The Zoo Days. On Friday, the sea lions, some of the zoo’s ambassador animals and animals in the Tropics building all took part in some World Cup fun. “Our staff does a great job on trying to enrich the animals every day, but since this is a special occasion, they have some soccer-oriented enrichment, like soccer balls that will be in with some of the animals,” said Sean Putney, CEO of the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium. “And obviously every animal gets enriched a different way. So our staff makes sure it’s safe for the animals while it’s in their exhibit.” And of course, the animals like it, too. “The animals are the actual stars, just like our soccer stars,” said Kim Romary, director of marketing for the KC Zoo. “They’re getting some soccer-themed enrichment, different animals each of the Kick It At The Zoo Days. And that’s always fun for people to see. And the animals are having a ball as well.” Kick It At The Zoo Days will take place the day before every match through July 10. Different animals will enjoy soccer enrichment on each date, and you can find a list of the animals for each of those dates on the zoo’s website here. You’ll also find tables set up throughout the zoo with special activities for kids, like soccer-themed scavenger hunts and coloring pages.
