JDF mourns death of soldier killed in Kingston | News

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is mourning the death of one of its members who was gunned down in Kingston last night.

The JDF says its Chaplaincy and Welfare Department is providing counselling and support services to the family of 37-year-old Corporal Andrae Thompson.

Thompson is of an Independence City, Portmore, St Catherine, address.

The army stated that the matter is currently being investigated by the Jamaica Constabulary Force and that the JDF is cooperating and assisting the investigators as required.

“The JDF offers its sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones during this time of bereavement.”

It is reported that last night, residents of Eve Lane heard several explosions in the vicinity of Prestige Bakery, which is located along Orange Street in Kingston.

The police were summoned, and upon arrival, a Toyota Axio motor car with all four doors open was observed.

The police say a search was carried out and Thompson was found lying face down near the car and had what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

They say a Smith & Wesson pistol affixed with a magazine containing four rounds, which is believed to belong to the deceased, was found in nearby bushes and handed over to investigators.
