Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago top Caribbean medal count at Commonwealth Games

Jamaica once again proved to be the Caribbean’s leading sporting nation at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
The country topped the region’s medal standings with an impressive 19 medals, including 10 gold, four silver and five bronze, finishing eighth overall.
The performance further strengthened Jamaica’s reputation as one of the Commonwealth’s most consistent athletic powers and the region’s biggest contributor to the medal table.
Trinidad and Tobago finished as the Caribbean’s second-best performing nation, securing seven medals — three silver and four bronze.
Despite not winning gold, the team delivered a strong showing against elite international competition, earning praise from Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee president Diane Henderson for its overall performance.
“…I mean, the level of competition, the overall performances, I think the performances were good. They were very good performances,” she said.
Several Caribbean nations also secured podium finishes at the Games.
The Bahamas won two medals, including one gold and one silver, while the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, and Grenada each captured gold.
Barbados earned a silver and Bermuda a bronze, highlighting the Caribbean’s continued ability to produce strong performances across various sporting disciplines despite smaller delegations.
Australia dominated the overall Commonwealth Games medal table with 171 medals, including 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze. England finished second with 110 medals, followed by Canada with 62.
Jamaica’s eighth-place finish was particularly notable, highlighting its ability to compete against much larger nations while remaining the Caribbean’s leading sporting force.
