A little-known Melbourne biotech company has been backed by the Ugandan government to use its experimental antiviral drug to treat patients infected with Ebola during the country’s deadly outbreak, a move the company says could pave the way for its widespread approval.
ASX-listed Island Pharmaceuticals said on Tuesday that it had received regulatory approval to ship Galidesivir to Uganda for compassionate use, which allows patients suffering from life-threatening diseases to try new and experimental medicines.
