Haiti became the first country eliminated from the 48-team 2026 World Cup with its 3-0 loss to Brazil in Philadelphia on Friday.
Making the nation’s first World Cup appearance since 1974, Les Grenadiers lost a tight opener 1-0 against Scotland before the lopsided defeat at the hands of Brazil. With the loss, Haiti cannot mathematically advance beyond the group stage, officially ending the team’s longshot hopes
The first World Cup with 48 teams has the top two in each group – and eight best third-place finishers – move on to the newly-created Round of 32.
Haiti surrendered three goals in the first half against five-time champion Brazil and has now been held scoreless for 180 minutes at this World Cup.
The Concacaf side broke its 52-year drought despite playing no home games in qualifying due to unrest in the country.
Haiti concludes its World Cup campaign in Atlanta against Morocco on Wednesday, June 24.
