IRC Suspends Field Operations in Yemen’s West Coast After Houthi Attacks on Mokha

Aden — The International Rescue Committee (IRC) announced Wednesday the suspension of its field operations and humanitarian programs along Yemen’s western coast following recent Houthi attacks on Mokha that endangered civilians and aid workers.

“The latest strikes targeting densely populated areas in Mokha and its surroundings have raised serious concerns about the widening scope of the conflict and the risks posed to civilians and humanitarian staff. 

We have therefore been forced to temporarily suspend our field operations and staff movements in the west coast,” the IRC said in a statement.

The organization warned that the suspension would disrupt program delivery and limit its ability to reach vulnerable communities, though essential health and protection services remain available through supported clinics.

The IRC stressed that the attacks form part of a broader escalation across Yemen in recent weeks, threatening to unravel a fragile four‑year truce and jeopardize humanitarian access. “Yemen cannot afford a return to full‑scale war, which would be catastrophic for millions already facing urgent humanitarian needs,” the statement read.

The committee urged all parties to take necessary precautions to protect civilians and ensure safe, unhindered humanitarian access. It also called on donors and the international community to urgently scale up support and funding to sustain basic services.
