Iraq says it would not allow its territory to be used to threaten neighboring countries

Baghdad, Aug. 8 (SANA) Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi reiterated on Saturday that Iraq would not allow its territory to be used to threaten the security of neighboring countries, stressing Baghdad’s commitment to maintaining balanced relations with regional states while safeguarding its sovereignty and national interests.

Al-Zaidi made the remarks during a telephone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the two leaders discussed regional developments and efforts to reduce tensions and promote security and stability, according to the Iraqi prime minister’s office.

He stressed the importance of dialogue in addressing regional and international issues and said the Iraqi government remained committed to strengthening stability and protecting the country’s interests amid ongoing developments in the region.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations and ways to expand cooperation, particularly in the economic and investment sectors, as well as France’s support for Iraq’s economic reform agenda, anti-corruption and counterterrorism efforts, and the development of the Iraqi armed forces.

Al-Zaidi said Sept. 30 remains the deadline for the withdrawal of coalition forces from Iraq, adding that the end of the coalition’s mission would allow the country to devote greater efforts to reconstruction, development and economic growth.
