Iraq Dismisses 38 Officers and More than 3,000 Personnel Over Corruption, Desertion
The Interior Ministry said 38 officers and 180 personnel were dismissed over corruption cases, while 3,245 others were removed for abandoning their duties.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraq’s Interior Ministry has dismissed 38 officers and 180 personnel over administrative and financial corruption, while removing 3,245 others for abandoning their duties, as part of measures taken during the first 100 days of the current government.
Maj. Gen. Miqdad Miri, head of the ministry’s Relations and Media Department, announced the measures on Thursday, saying the ministry had adopted strict procedures to combat corruption and strengthen professional discipline within the security institution.
Miri stressed that no one would be protected if their involvement was proven in cases affecting integrity or damaging the reputation of the institution.
During the first 100 days of the current government, the ministry permanently dismissed 38 officers after their involvement in administrative and financial corruption cases was established.
Another 180 personnel were removed from service based on final judicial rulings and for the same reasons, according to Miri.
In addition, 3,245 personnel who had abandoned their duties were dismissed as part of measures aimed at reinforcing compliance with laws and professional obligations.
The ministry said the measures demonstrate its determination to deal seriously and firmly with cases of corruption and failure to perform official duties.
Miri said: “The reform and accountability process will continue without exception, because protecting the security institution and strengthening discipline within its ranks are an important foundation for building a professional security apparatus that earns citizens’ trust and preserves the dignity of the state.”
