Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) — Iraq and Turkey have agreed to increase their energy cooperation, with discussions centered on optimizing the Iraq-Turkey Crude Oil Pipeline and promoting the Development Road Project as a significant regional energy corridor.
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar met with Iraq’s new Oil Minister Bassim Mohammed Khudair in Baghdad, where they discussed extending bilateral energy cooperation and advancing vital infrastructure projects connecting Iraq to Turkey and worldwide markets.
A primary aim was to improve the efficiency of the Iraq-Turkey pipeline, which supplies Iraq with a vital export route to the Mediterranean.
The Ministers also discussed incorporating energy infrastructure into the Development Road Project, Iraq’s primary transportation and logistics corridor that connects the Gulf to Europe via Iraq and Turkey.
The meeting underscores increased coordination between Baghdad and Ankara under Iraq’s new administration, as the two nations seek tighter collaboration in energy, commerce, and infrastructure.
The conversations take place as regional tensions underline the significance of diversifying Iraq’s export channels.
Strengthening the northern route via Turkey may lessen Iraq’s dependency on the Strait of Hormuz, providing a strategic option for future oil shipments and bolstering the country’s long-term energy security.
