WANA (Jul 11) – Iran’s national mathematics olympiad team claimed the overall championship at the International Mathematics Competition (IMSC) in China after winning four gold medals and two silver medals in the event, which brought together participants from 49 countries.
According to Tasnim News Agency, Amir Mohammad Bao, Head of Public Relations and International Affairs at Iran’s Young Scholars Club, said that the IMSC is an independent international competition held annually in China ahead of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). He emphasized that it should not be confused with the IMO itself or regarded as a simulation of the global contest.
He explained that national teams are invited to China about two weeks before the IMO, where they take part in training sessions, academic workshops, and the IMSC competition. This year’s event featured teams from 49 countries.
Bao said the Iranian team won four gold medals and two silver medals, securing first place in the overall team standings.
He added that following the conclusion of the IMSC, the Iranian delegation will travel from Beijing to Shanghai to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which is scheduled to begin in the coming days.
Bao also stressed that while the IMSC serves as valuable preparation because many IMO participants also compete in it, it remains a prestigious and independent international mathematics competition in its own right.
