IPI calls for punishment over raid on Nigerian media station
The Nigerian National Committee of the International Press Institute (IPI Nigeria) has called on Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu to identify and punish law enforcement officers involved in the reported raid on JKD TV Hamada Radio Network in Millennium City, Kaduna State. This was reported by Premium Times Nigeria.
Demand to punish those involved
In a statement dated September 13, IPI Nigeria condemned the arrival of a group of armed police officers at the media organization. The organization described the operation as illegal and said such actions recall repression against Nigerian media during military rule.
IPI Nigeria called on the police not to interfere in civil disputes arising from television and radio station materials. In the organization’s view, people dissatisfied with published reports should go to court. The committee also asked Disu to issue an instruction to all police units to prevent law enforcement officers from being used to intimidate journalists or civilians.

Detentions during the operation
According to IPI Nigeria, police arrived at JKD TV Hamada Radio Network over a video explanation prepared by the station about Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Affairs. The organization claims that police said they had instructions to detain journalist Zainab Salihu Yabagi.
The Kaduna State Police Command had previously declared Yabagi wanted, IPI Nigeria notes. According to the organization, the network’s general manager, Charles Aba, and a security guard were arbitrarily detained during the raid. IPI Nigeria stressed the need to observe due process and constitutional rights in all actions in this case.
