Inditex donates 1.37 million euros to Red Cross for Colombia earthquake relief

Inditex announced on Monday a donation of 5 billion Colombian pesos, equivalent to 1.37 million euros, to support people affected by the earthquake in Colombia.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia on August 10, becoming the country’s deadliest and most destructive quake this century. Inditex’s contribution will help strengthen the emergency healthcare response and ensure the continuity of health services in the affected areas, the company said in a statement.

The donation was made through the Spanish Red Cross and in coordination with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The funding will also support the deployment of specialised personnel and mobile healthcare services, and the procurement of medical equipment and supplies needed to provide care to those affected.

In addition to the contribution, Inditex has launched a channel for voluntary monetary contributions from its employees in Spain, which will be added to the company’s contribution to the Colombian Red Cross.

Inditex operates about 60 stores in Colombia, including locations for Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti and Bershka, Stradivarius and Oysho, according to the group’s latest annual results.

The 7.4-magnitude earthquake affected urban centers of Colombia, such as Cali and Pereira, as well as remote areas in the department of Chocó. According to the latest report of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the earthquake has killed at least 298 people, injured 3,935, and 320 are missing.
