India Lifts 2017 Travel Advisory on Yemen, Urges Continued Caution

New Delhi – India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced Tuesday the cancellation of a 2017 travel advisory that had imposed restrictions and conditions on Indian citizens traveling to Yemen.

The advisory had been in place for nearly nine years, introduced amid deteriorating security following the war ignited by Houthi militants.

In a statement, the ministry clarified that the removal of the notice does not signal the elimination of security risks. It reiterated its call for Indian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to Yemen due to the country’s ongoing instability.

The ministry stressed that unavoidable travel must be preceded by a careful assessment of the security situation, with travelers urged to steer clear of active conflict zones and exercise maximum caution.

Indian citizens residing in Yemen were advised to minimize movement to ensure their safety amid persistent threats linked to the war.

The ministry also recommended that all Indian nationals currently in Yemen, or planning to travel there, register with the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to facilitate communication and provide emergency support when needed.

The decision reflects India’s effort to update its travel guidance while acknowledging the continuing challenges posed by Yemen’s fragile security environment.
