Houthis’ Claim of Responsibility for Attack on Army Camps Renews Calls for Decisive Military Action

Aden – The Houthis announced on Thursday that they had officially carried out an attack targeting Yemeni army positions and military gatherings in the areas of Al-Ruwaik, Al-Abr, and Al-Thaniyah, located in Hadramout Governorate near the border with Marib. The areas are considered among the most important military concentration points and logistical supply routes in eastern Yemen.

Observers described the announcement as a significant escalation in the conflict after the group openly acknowledged responsibility for the attack, stating that it employed ballistic missiles and armed drones during the operation.

In their statement, the Houthis claimed that the attack resulted in hundreds of soldiers killed and wounded among the targeted forces. However, the Yemeni government and independent sources have not yet confirmed or verified these casualty figures.

Analysts say the Houthis’ official claim of responsibility places Yemen’s internationally recognized government under renewed political and military pressure, amid growing calls for a firmer response to attacks targeting government forces.

According to supporters of this view, the Houthis’ public acknowledgment removes any ambiguity regarding the identity of the attackers and leaves little room for uncertainty over responsibility, making a military response an increasingly viable option. They argue that failing to respond could be interpreted as allowing the group to continue escalating its military operations.

Against this backdrop, voices are increasingly calling on the Yemeni government to launch a broad campaign to liberate Houthi-controlled territories, arguing that the latest developments require a reassessment of the current military strategy.
