Houthis Announce Deaths of 12 Fighters Amid Escalating Clashes in Yemen

Sanaa — Yemen’s Houthi movement said Friday that 12 of its members, including four officers, were killed as fighting with government forces continues to intensify.

The group’s Al-Masirah television reported that funerals were held in Sanaa and the provinces of Saada, Hajjah, Mahwit, Dhamar, and Amran. 

Among the dead was an officer with the rank of brigadier general, according to the channel. No details were provided on when or where the fighters were killed.

On Thursday, the Yemeni army announced it had carried out 81 operations against Houthi positions within 24 hours, targeting commanders and field units, though it did not specify casualty figures.

Yemen has witnessed a fragile truce since April 2022 in a war that began more than a decade ago. The Houthis have controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces since September 2014.

Clashes have flared again since early July in provinces including Marib, Al-Jawf, Al-Dhalea, and Taiz, deepening the humanitarian and economic crisis in the country.

The Saudi-led coalition continues to back government forces, while Iran is accused of supporting the Houthis. In July, the group declared a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, further heightening regional tensions.
