Capitol Hill, Monrovia, June 30, 2026 – The House of Representatives has referred a draft bill seeking to establish the Bong Mines Vocational Training Institute (BMVTI) to its joint committees on Education and Public Administration, Judiciary, and Ways, Means and Finance for review.
The decision followed the submission of the proposed legislation by Bong County Electoral District #7 Representative Foday E. Fahnbulleh during Tuesday’s plenary session.
The proposed legislation, titled “An Act to Establish the Bong Mines Vocational Training Institute (BMVTI) as a Semi-Autonomous Public Institution for Technical and Vocational Education,” seeks to create a structured vocational institution to provide technical and vocational education for young people, residents of Bong County and other Liberians.
In his communication to Plenary, Rep. Fahnbulleh said the proposed institute would support the government’s efforts to expand access to education and develop a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of a growing economy.
According to him, the institute would offer specialized technical training designed to promote economic self-reliance, strengthen workforce capacity and contribute to sustainable regional development.
The Bong County lawmaker said establishing the institution would provide significant socio-economic benefits, particularly for young people and surrounding communities.
He urged the House to receive the bill and forward it to the relevant committees for timely review and favorable consideration.
Plenary subsequently mandated the joint committees to conduct a comprehensive review of the proposed legislation and report their findings and recommendations within two weeks for further legislative action.
