Hospitals and medical centers announce strike

Medical and allied health staff at several healthcare facilities have announced a strike and work stoppage in protest against the continued deterioration of Libya’s healthcare sector and declining service standards.

In statements, healthcare workers said they had joined the “Libya Doctors’ Movement” and the Health Sector Movement Union to demand their rights, stressing that the strike does not include life-saving cases, critical emergencies, intensive care units, or dialysis units, emphasizing that care will continue for patients whose conditions require intervention on professional and humanitarian grounds to protect their lives and safety.

The medical teams called on the responsible authorities to assume their responsibilities and urgently respond to their demands to rescue the healthcare sector and preserve what remains of its system.
