RABAT – Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has revealed what he believes is the secret behind the Atlas Lions’ recent success, saying the strong bond between the players has helped the team achieve historic results.
Speaking during a live interview on ABtalks, the Paris Saint-Germain star said the Moroccan squad enjoys spending time together both on and off the pitch.
“I think the secret is simple. We have a great atmosphere together,” Hakimi said.
“We have fun, dance, laugh, play cards, and spend as much time together as possible. That is the most important thing because we feel like one family.”
Hakimi believes this unity has become one of Morocco’s biggest strengths as the team continues its impressive journey at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Atlas Lions are preparing to face the Netherlands in the Round of 32 on Tuesday in Monterrey, Mexico, with a place in the last 16 at stake.
Despite the difficult challenge ahead, Hakimi said Morocco is capable of dreaming even bigger.
“There are no words to describe it,” he said when asked about the possibility of winning the World Cup.
“I believe we can achieve this dream, but we also know we must stay focused on every single match.”
The 27-year-old admitted lifting football’s biggest trophy would be a historic achievement, not only for Morocco but for the entire African continent.
“We will do everything we can to go as far as possible. Maybe, why not, win the World Cup one day,” he said.
“It would be the first time an African nation wins the World Cup and the first time in Morocco’s history. The whole country would celebrate like never before.”
Hakimi added that captaining Morocco to a World Cup title would be an unforgettable moment.
“I hope I will see that day. Lifting the trophy as Morocco’s captain would be something truly special.”
Morocco heads into the knockout stage full of confidence after topping its group, with the Atlas Lions hoping their unity and belief can carry them closer to making football history.
