Hakimi, Bounou, Amrabat Lead Morocco’s 2026 World Cup Dream

RabatThe revealed squad list of the Moroccan national team, features the continued presence of five players who have successfully maintained their spots across three consecutive World Cup campaigns, having previously fought for the national colors in Russia 2018 and during the historic semi-final run in Qatar 2022.

This group of five consists of Yassine Bounou, Achraf Hakimi, Sofyan Amrabat, Munir Mohammedi, and Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti.

Their inclusion  in the list sends a clear message about Coach Mohamed Ouahbi’s technical approach, leaning heavily on international elite experience to steady his squad.

Following their historic performance in 2022, where the Moroccan national team succeeded in becoming the first African and Arab nation to reach a world cup semi-final.

The Atlas Lions are no longer viewed as underdogs, but as serious contenders expected to compete at the highest global level.

Leading the next generation

While Ouahbi’s 2026 squad includes several fresh, young faces such as Yassir Zabiri, he has ultimately built a dynamic and modern tactical system that combines established leaders and promising young talents. The presence of world-class players like Hakimi in defense, Amrabat controlling the midfield, and Bounou between the posts provides a safety net for the emerging talents playing their first World Cup.

With their opening Group C match against football giants Brazil right around the corner, Morocco’s experience-driven strategy will face its ultimate test on day one promised to be a grueling encounter that will measure the team’s true capabilities from the very start.

For these five veterans, the tournament represents a historic personal milestone and a chance to further cement this generation’s legacy in Moroccan football history.
