Gulftainer, a globally recognized provider of integrated maritime and logistics services, has initiated its first dedicated feeder service linking the UAE with Umm Qasr, Iraq. This development occurs 17 years after the firm established Iraq’s inaugural modern container terminal at Umm Qasr in 2009, representing Gulftainer’s subsequent advancement as a comprehensive trade and logistics facilitator within the nation.

Managed under the company’s shipping division, GT Lines, this new direct route connects Umm Qasr to UAE ports and to significant regional and international logistics centers. By integrating GT Lines’ own vessels with Iraq Commercial Terminal and the Umm Qasr Logistics Centre, Gulftainer is establishing a unified trade corridor that links Iraq to the UAE, and via Gulftainer’s broader network, to regional and global markets.

A fundamental element of this framework is the Umm Qasr Logistics Centre, situated next to Iraq Commercial Terminal. Collectively, the terminal, the logistics center, and GT Lines constitute a fully integrated maritime and logistics system. This approach offers warehousing, container storage, cargo consolidation, customs clearance, and value-added services to optimize cargo movement and enhance supply chain robustness in Iraq.

Farid Belbouab, Group CEO of Gulftainer, stated that 17 years ago Gulftainer constructed Iraq’s first modern container terminal, and now it is advancing by linking the UAE and Umm Qasr using its own GT Lines vessels. He emphasized that this is not merely a new route but an integrated corridor providing Iraqi businesses with the certainty and dependability required to trade confidently.

The new UAE-Umm Qasr service is characterized as a strategic trade corridor, not simply another route. It aims to bolster Iraq’s global trade gateway by connecting the UAE and Umm Qasr through a dedicated GT Lines service. This further solidifies Gulftainer’s enduring dedication to Iraq’s role as a pivotal gateway linking the Gulf, the Levant, and Asia. By enhancing cargo transparency and offering more reliable access to international markets, the service connects Iraqi traders to East Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, Africa, and other regions.

Belbouab added that Iraq’s trade and logistics requirements have evolved beyond what a single terminal can provide, and this dedicated service marks the next stage of Gulftainer’s long-term collaboration with Iraq’s ports authority to foster Iraq’s economic development and communities.

As Iraq’s economy diversifies and non-oil trade volumes increase, Gulftainer will persist in investing to create integrated networks centered around its own ports and logistics assets. Currently, the company operates 10 vessels serving the Gulf, Iraq, India, Pakistan, China, and Southeast Asia. This growth reinforces Gulftainer’s position as a sustained trade enabler for Iraq and the broader region.
