Grand Cape Mount Seeks Investors for Landmark Tourism Aviation Project | News

Grand Cape Mount County Superintendent Foley J. Kiatamba has announced that the County is prepared to provide land for the development of what he described as Liberia’s first dedicated tourist and transit airport, as county authorities intensify efforts to position the western region as a major tourism and investment destination.

Speaking recently during the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed Robertsport Hospitality and Tourism Training Center at the Tubman Cultural Center in Robertsport, Superintendent Kiatamba issued a direct appeal to international investors, development partners, and the Liberian government to support the ambitious tourism infrastructure project.

“Grand Cape Mount County is prepared to make land space available to have this Liberia-only tourist and transit airport,” Superintendent Kiatamba declared. “We are willing to provide land on the lake for that in the Tewor area. We are looking for partners to please come in and build that area to have a tourist and transit airport in the Republic of Liberia. We are willing to provide our land.”

The proposal emerged as county leaders, government officials, and development partners gathered to launch the construction of the Robertsport Hospitality and Tourism Training Center, a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution intended to strengthen skills development in Liberia’s growing tourism and hospitality sector.

The event brought together senior government officials, local authorities, traditional leaders, youth groups, and international partners, with Superintendent Kiatamba using the occasion to highlight Grand Cape Mount County’s tourism potential and strategic economic value.

“We always say Grand Cape Mount is a land of endless opportunity, especially when it comes to tourism,” he said.

Kiatamba emphasized that the county possesses significant untapped opportunities capable of contributing not only to Cape Mount’s economy but also to Liberia’s broader economic transformation agenda.

“We’d like to take this time on behalf of the people of Cape Mount to inform our caucus, the ministers, our multilateral and bilateral partners, that Cape Mount has another big opportunity out there and we are looking for partners to come in and invest that will help build the economy of this country, not only Cape Mount, but the Republic of Liberia,” he noted.

The Superintendent also praised Liberia’s international development partners for supporting the establishment of the hospitality and tourism training center, describing the initiative as a historic opportunity for young people across the county.

“On behalf of the President of the Republic of Liberia, we’d like to take this time to extend to our multilateral and bilateral partners who have contributed to this process of establishing a TVET in Grand Cape Mount County,” Kiatamba said. “We want to say to you through the ministries that you are cooperating with that we are highly appreciative and we can assure you that the citizens of Grand Cape Mount County will wholeheartedly work so that this process can become a reality and benefit the people of Grand Cape Mount County.”

According to him, the training center represents a long-overdue investment in technical education and youth empowerment in the county.

“In the past, we have not had this. Today, it’s coming to Grand Cape Mount County, not only Robertsport, though it’s situated in Robertsport, but it belongs to Grand Cape Mount County,” he stated.

He assured government officials and development partners that local communities would actively support the initiative and encourage young people to take advantage of the opportunities it will create.

“We can assure you, Madam Ministers and other officials of government, our multilateral and bilateral partners, that the people of Cape Mount will be encouraged to make use of this opportunity, the youth especially,” he added.

The Superintendent also made a passionate appeal to women, parents, and community leaders to support youth participation in the training programs once the institution becomes operational.

“We appeal to our mothers, we appeal to our brothers and sisters out there, our children out there, to please make use of this opportunity that is coming to Grand Cape Mount County,” he urged.

Kiatamba further acknowledged the significant role women have played in promoting the project and advancing development initiatives within the county.

“If you look at this whole program, who is encouraging it? It is the women,” he said. “The women encouraging this program to come to Cape Mount, the higher representation you have here today are the women.”

The proposed Robertsport Hospitality and Tourism Training Center is expected to focus on hospitality management, tourism services, and vocational skills training aimed at preparing young Liberians for opportunities in the tourism industry.

County authorities believe the combined development of tourism infrastructure, hospitality education, and potential aviation access could transform Grand Cape Mount into one of Liberia’s leading tourism corridors, leveraging Robertsport’s internationally recognized beaches, surf destinations, and cultural heritage sites.

Officials say the airport proposal remains at the conceptual stage, but local authorities are optimistic that increased investor interest and partnerships could help move the initiative forward as Liberia seeks to diversify its economy through tourism, infrastructure, and private sector investment.
