The Bayelsa State Government has appointed a five-member interim board to manage Bayelsa United FC for the next six months following the club’s relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Governor Douye Diri approved the appointment after dissolving the club’s previous board two weeks ago during a meeting of the State Executive Council at the Government House in Yenagoa.
The decision followed Bayelsa United’s relegation at the end of the 2025/2026 NPFL season.
Deputy Governor Dr Peter Akpe announced the new interim board on Thursday during the weekly Prosperity Walk at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
Akpe said the committee has been given a clear mandate to guide the club back to the NPFL within six months, stressing that Bayelsa United should not spend an extended period in the second tier.
“The task is to bring Bayelsa United out of relegation and back to the Premiership, which is the rightful position of the club,” he said.
The interim board is made up of experienced football administrator Dr Peter Singabele, former Director of Sports Sir Braveman Wodi, Director-General of the Prosperity Cup Ono Akpe, Godson Ekarde, while Ken Ekpolaemi Odogu will serve as secretary.

Akpe reiterated the government’s expectations, saying the committee has six months to secure the club’s return to the top flight.
“Dr Peter Singabele, Braveman Wodi, Godson Ekarde, Ono Akpe and Ken Ekpolaemi Odogu have six months to return the team to the top division,” he added.
The deputy governor also called on football stakeholders across Bayelsa State to support the interim board in its efforts to help the government-owned club regain its place in the Nigeria Premier Football League at the earliest opportunity.
