GLS Reaffirms Integrity, Warns of Legal Action Over Unverified Allegations | Investment

MONROVIA – GLS Group has publicly reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, transparency, and full cooperation with law enforcement authorities as investigations continue into the seizure of a major cocaine shipment at Roberts International Airport (RIA), a case that has generated intense public scrutiny and widespread speculation.

In a statement issued Saturday, the company said it was aware of questions being raised in public discussions concerning the firm and its leadership in connection with the ongoing investigation and stressed that it is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities.

“GLS Group is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and will continue to extend its complete support throughout the process,” the statement said.

The company’s response comes days after authorities announced the interception of approximately 200 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of US$19.2 million at RIA, one of the largest drug seizures in Liberia’s history. The case triggered multiple investigations and fueled public debate over how the narcotics entered the country and whether any individuals or institutions connected to airport operations may have had knowledge of the shipment.

While acknowledging the public interest surrounding the case, GLS said it would refrain from discussing specific details while the investigation remains active.

“Out of respect for the integrity of the investigation and for due process, the Company will not comment on the subject of an ongoing investigation, or on the specifics of the matter while it remains under review,” the statement noted.

The company urged both the public and the media to allow investigators to complete their work and avoid drawing premature conclusions before the facts are fully established.

At the same time, GLS strongly pushed back against allegations circulating in some quarters that it believes are intended to damage the company’s reputation and that of its leadership.

“GLS Group categorically rejects unverified claims that are false, defamatory, and deliberately intended to undermine the hard-earned reputation of our company and tarnish the personal image of our Executive Chairman and CEO,” the statement said.

The company further warned that it reserves the right to pursue legal action against individuals or entities responsible for spreading false information.

The statement also highlighted GLS Group’s role in Liberia’s logistics and infrastructure sectors over the past 14 years, pointing to projects including the GLS Menzies Aviation Cargo Center at Roberts International Airport and the Liberia Bonded Warehouse Complex.

According to the company, those investments have helped modernize cargo handling and logistics services in Liberia while supporting trade and economic activity.

“These achievements represent GLS Group’s sustained commitment to innovation, reliability, and national development,” the company said.

GLS reiterated that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward unlawful activities and operates under strict compliance and operational standards.

The company said any verified information relating to the investigation should come from official investigative authorities and encouraged stakeholders to rely on those sources rather than speculation circulating on social media and other platforms.

“Verified information relating to this matter will be issued by the official investigating bodies, and we encourage all stakeholders to rely on those sources,” the statement added.

The company concluded by pledging continued cooperation with investigators and a review of internal procedures where necessary to support the authorities’ work and strengthen existing safeguards.

The ongoing investigation into the RIA cocaine seizure remains under review by Liberian authorities, who have indicated that inquiries are continuing as they seek to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shipment and identify all individuals connected to the case.
