Gas prices in Central Florida climb as Iran war disrupts global oil supply

ORLANDO, Fla. – Gas prices in Central Florida are climbing, and President Donald Trump says relief at the pump is still months away.

The Iran war has dramatically slowed oil moving through the Strait of Hormuz — a critical shipping lane that previously carried about 20% of the world’s petroleum. The disruption has sent prices surging across the country.

According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular gas has climbed to $4.28 — up 14 cents from just one week ago. Floridians are seeing slightly lower prices, averaging about $4.15 per gallon.

President Donald Trump, pressed by reporters on when prices might drop, offered a candid — if sobering — answer.

“I think it’s going to take a little bit longer than the midterms,” Trump said.

Harvard economics professor Ken Rogoff says uncertainty is the driving force behind Wall Street’s unease.

“The Iran war is unsettled and it’s unsettling Wall Street because it doesn’t seem to be ending,” Rogoff said.

Diesel prices are also surging, raising concerns about inflation and limiting the Federal Reserve’s ability to cut interest rates — a ripple effect that could touch nearly every corner of the economy.
