Gambian woman given permission to move to UK to live with German husband despite NEITHER attending their own ‘wedding’

A WOMAN has been granted permission to move to Britain to be with her husband — despite neither attending their African “wedding”.

Gambian Smaou Faal’s original application to join Mustafa Faal was rejected by the Home Office who reckoned the ceremony in a mosque never took place.

Officials said that, even if it had, the 2019 service was not legally valid and the couple were not “durable partners” — as he moved abroad less than two years into the relationship.

Immigration tribunal judge Joanna McWilliam said she was “not satisfied” the wedding took place after hearing only the families of the couple, who first met in Gambia in 2017, were at the ceremony.

But she allowed the woman’s appeal after accepting the pair later had a civil wedding.

It means Mrs Faal, 30, can now join her husband, a German national, and their two children.

Judge McWilliam said: “The unchallenged evidence is that the appellant is pregnant with their third child.

“There is no challenge to the civil marriage having taken place . . . it is further evidence that supports the durability of the relationship.”
