FRSC, Sierra Leone Sign 5-Year MoU to Strengthen Regional Road Safety
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening regional cooperation on road safety, institutional capacity building and coordinated efforts to reduce road traffic crashes and fatalities across West Africa.
The agreement was signed on Friday at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, with both agencies committing to enhanced collaboration in knowledge sharing, research, data-driven road safety management, vehicle administration, enforcement and professional capacity development.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, James Bagie Bio, described the agreement as a major milestone in the relationship between both institutions.
He commended the professionalism, operational standards and technological advancement of the FRSC under the leadership of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, noting that the Sierra Leonean delegation was impressed by the Corps’ best practices during its visit to Nigeria.
Bio said the MoU would be backed by practical implementation, sustained institutional engagement and periodic evaluation to ensure tangible results.
“This MoU will not gather dust on the shelf,” he said, stressing Sierra Leone’s commitment to translating the partnership into measurable improvements in road safety.
Also speaking, Sierra Leone’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria and Deputy Head of Mission to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Major General (Rtd.) Dauda Alpha, praised the transformation of the FRSC, attributing its growing reputation across Africa to the leadership of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed.
He described the Corps as a reference point for road safety administration on the continent and said the partnership would strengthen regional integration and collective efforts to improve road safety and save lives across Africa.
The agreement is expected to deepen cooperation between the two agencies in advancing innovation and institutional development while supporting efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those relating to road safety and sustainable transport.
The signing also reflects the FRSC’s continued drive to expand international partnerships and reinforce its role in promoting regional collaboration on road safety within the ECOWAS sub-region.
